Portrait Session with Steph Neast

Dear Future Scientists Who Will Make Wings,
This is Stephanie Lynn Neast, or Steph for short. If she could photograph anything in the world, it'd be the olympics. She identifies herself as a shy girl, who is very athletic. The sincerity of this photo and half her face being shadowed, represents her shyness, and her jacket represents her athletic-ness. If she could change anything about herself, it'd be to become more confident in her abilities. When Steph grows up, she wants to become a Physical Therapist, and in 10 years, she'll be working. She loves to listen to music on her phone, and she's usually found in the gym or sleeping in bed. She wishes that critics and unappreciative people in pop culture would go away. Her biggest fear in life is if she got a serious injury that would keep her from her sport. Steph wishes she could fly because she likes to get places early, and if she could fly, she could beat the traffic. Her favorite restaurants are Mikado's and The Melting Pot. She likes photography because it shows a different perspective of everything. She hopes that by the end of the year, she'd be able to interpret the little things in photos.
Thanks for Reading!!

Personal Reflection Questions
1.) How did you take the photograph? I took 2 photos. I took both of them with my phone. The piano I took one day when I was bored, and the zebra was taken at a safari in Texas. I went there this summer.
2.) Why is this photo good? I think the piano photo is good because there's no definitive end, and I think the zebra photo is good because it shows colors and patterns on the zebra that I didn't know were there. There's actually a small black stripe through each tan stripe.
3.) Why do you value this photograph? I value these photos because they're one of the best photos I feel that I've ever taken. Both show things that are more complex, like there's a meaning inside.
4.) What is your theme? How did you showcase your identity? My theme is that life doesn't have a specific order. I like things in order, but I also need things to be disheveled sometimes, just to keep myself in check.
5.) How do the other images/text selected relate to your theme? The text is all different fonts, and that ties into the fact that life doesn't have a specific order. There isn't one specific font (order) that life has to be. It's diverse.
6.) Describe how you used the chosen principle of design. I used the monochromatic color theme so that the message would be heard, and it won't be drowned out by color. There's also a balance as in the circles on either sides of my name, and my first and last names are balanced being the same number of letters. There's also a variety of the photos I used, in trying to get different photos.

My Best Photo
My Best Photo
I think that this is a good photo because it has a cool angel. It also looks like a piano still, but quite different too. I also like how colorful it is. This photo is personal to me because I love to play the piano. I've played for almost 6 years, and I would love to continue forever! I love to play, and i think this photo really shows what it feels like to play. This photo personally means a lot to me and it was fun to just play with it.
What Makes a Good Photo?
Group List:
- Focus
- Have a subject
- Lighting
- Meaning
- Angles
- Quality
- Emotion
- Proportionate
I learned from this photographer’s
blog is that many photographers have different thoughts as to what is the most
important thing about a photograph. Some people had said the same thing, but
others had different ideas as to what makes a good photo. Almost all the
qualities were intangible. No one had said that you need a good camera, or a
special eye for this kind of thing. As Clare Absolon said, “I don’t believe
that you need to be a professional to take a good photograph; as long as you
have a grasp of the composition…”
Many of these artists had said
that the most important quality of a photo is that it has a story to tell. The
photo shows just a snapshot of life, but there is an entire story behind it.
The photo needs to engage the viewer and tell half the story. Some
photographers said that it needs to be emotional. Some stories are emotional,
and to tell an emotional story through a photo, there needs to be emotion in
the picture itself. Every story means something, and with the proper lighting,
that story can be told. Many photographers said that lighting is very important
because it can take just an ordinary photo, and make it extraordinary. Tanveer
Badal said that being a photographer makes you pay attention to the ordinary
things in life. Everything has a story, and that includes the ordinary things.
What every photographer said ties
into the fact that each photo needs to tell a story, and I plan on doing that
with my photography.
